Sustainability Statement

At The Lantern House we choose to make artworks with as small a carbon footprint as we can.

  • We use willow in our lanterns to create the framework. It’s a fantastic renewable local (grown in Somerset) resource. It is a great carbon store as a rapid growing crop and useful in flood prevention.
  • We use tissue paper to cover our lanterns, a renewable & recyclable resource.
  • We use a small amount of aluminium for the armature of our lanterns, we reuse and recycle it.
  • We use water based PVA glue and acrylic varnish. This adds longevity to our lanterns, enabling each lantern to last a couple of years before they need to be stripped of their tissue paper and glue layer, recovered and varnished again.
  • We use good quality durable LEDs which are low energy and have a long lifespan of 15000 hours of use which is great. Unfortunately, they aren’t made in the UK, we will keep checking.
  • We recycle and reuse as much as we can. We care for and repair our lanterns to extend their life.
  • We use rechargeable 12v batteries.

We are very proud of our low carbon footprint and continue to research and reflect on our process to lower the impact of our product

We use good quality LED lights because they are durable and incredibly low power.
